The largest fashion event in Asia, the Hong Kong Fashion Week is well underway. It is the 41st edition of the prestigious event that along with the 8th World Boutique is being held from Monday to Thursday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. It will feature exhibitors who have come from 30 different countries and regions, as well as over 5,000 buyers looking to snap up the best of their Fall/Winter collections.
Despite the American and European fashion markets falling victim to the current economic crises, the Chinese industry increased exports in 2009 after a lot of the top local brands across the mainland dared to explore foreign markets.
As the organisers had hoped, the event has attracted a lot of attention from international buyers. It is expected that the Chinese fashion industry will try other methods to get themselves noticed by the global market and Brand Manager of Xtep, Xu Lei gave an example of how their company was going to go about doing this: “The players from the team of Birmingham city will wear products of our brand in the near future. Xtep will become the first Chinese mainland's brand to sponsor a Premier League team."
The Hong Kong Fashion Week is likely to inspire other brands from China to try innovative methods such as this to get recognition in other parts of the world.

Winter 2009 make-up trends
November 13th 2009
Purple, gothic, and 80's retro style are just a few trends that are hot this winter, so get ready to shine like a star!
Purple is the new black?
The colour purple in all its forms and blends gives off a mysterious and magical look and feel to the indiviual, and is perfect for this time of year. It has been a big hit amongst the beauty and clothing world this year and this winter, this trend is set to continue with possibly darker shades of purple. With Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, Dior and Versace all using this shimmering colour in their shows, it's no wonder everyone is after it!
Goth becomes chic with purple shades that are ideally matched with black, and this is why the gothic theme is also a hit this winter. Dazzle Dust by Barry M are pefect for this look, as are Boujois eyeliners. The gothic look needs good blending to create the perfect smokey eye for this look. There are plenty of dark glittery and midnight blue/purple colours that will sparkle your eyes.
Retro style, back to the 80's
The classic red lip stick, perfectly lined lips, hot pinks/reds are also back in this winter. With the return of matte lip-sticks, we will definately see a lot of bold lip colours this season. Clinique and Revlon have a great collection of red and pink matte lipstick for that retro style.
Winter will definately be a sparkling one for make-up fans with brands such as Barry M, Clinique, Bourjois, and Maybeline to look out for.

Madonna - new face for Gabbanna
November 11th 2009
Queen of pop Madonna is the newest ambassador for Dolce & Gabbana, and is set to front their Spring/Summer 2010 campaign. This news comes just days after Louis Vuitton announced that they had dropped her from their Spring/Summer 2010 campaign.
The news came from Swide, Dolce & Gabbana’s in house fashion magazine. The shoots for next seasons campaign are understood to have already taken place, and the designer duo who were in attendance at the shoot, are understandably over the moon at having the Material Girl front their new campaign. They said: “Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true”.
Dolce & Gabbana's Spring Sicilian-inspired womenswear collection features plenty of corsetry, sheer lace fabrics, caged-skirts and structured tailoring.
Madonna has a long history with D&G. They designed the costumes for her The Girlie Show tour back in 1993 and then again for her Sweet and Sticky tour in 2008.
Designers like Tarun Tahilliani and Nida Mahmood showcased the sari in new and creative ways, at the recently concluded Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

Tahiliani says that sari’s can now be accessorised and glistened up. He says “for instance belts can be used over saris by slim and tall people. It accentuates the waist, looks sexy and adds style as well as youthfulness to the outfit.”
Indian designers, have used cutting edge design, style and business, that have started trends and fashion crazes across India, it will only be a matter of time to see this same craze becoming international.
We can now see that with a twist of modernity on the sari, younger people who were reluctant to wearing saris are now more enthusiastic than ever in wearing saris.

Vera Wang 2010 Bridal collection
November 5th 2009
Vera Wang unveiled her fall 2010 bridal collection which wowed fans and fashionista’s. The collection characterized why Wang is known for taking bridal to a high fashion, artistic level, creating gowns that could as easily walk down an haute couture runway as they could down the wedding aisle.
After nineteen years of designing bridal gowns, Vera Wang knows how to please. The inspiration to her latest collection this season was Cecil Beaton’s costuming and art direction for “My Fair Lady”, the 1964 version of the musical.
Juxtapositions of black and white combined with Wang's stunning sculptural fabric manipulations made this bridal collection feel strikingly fresh with sophistication unsurpassed in the current bridal market. She created something that is edgy and new, yet with a kind of romantic touch that even the most classic of brides can appreciate.
Striking horsehair bows in black gave flourish, like a line drawing penned in black ink, to strapless gowns that had swirling pleats or overlapping bands, woven more tightly at the top then spreading out toward the hem like a loosely deconstructed basket.
Wang is never afraid to try a non-traditional color out in her collections, and her fall collection featured an elegant black tulle ball gown with all-over petal appliqués.
Wang's dresses place a premium on the unexpected, always stretching her design vocabulary: Transparent layers hide and reveal the complexity of the design, with unexpected rosettes, smocking technique or hand-painted fabrics. http://www.verawangonweddings.com/
Fashion Pakistan Week
November 5th 2009
Pakistan took fashion to the runways this week, aiming to promote a more glamorous side of a nation that has been filled with violence and militant extremism in recent months.
The four day Fashion Pakistan Week opened on Wednesday to show off stunning outfits from 30 of the country’s top designers along with 30 of its top models. This beautiful fashion scene was previously delayed on two occasion due to security concerns regarding the current violent climate the country is facing.
"We are being proactive rather than reactive and so the show must go on," said Rizwan Beyg, a member of Fashion Pakistan and one of the country's leading designers.
Models did their thing, and strut down the runway in short or backless dresses. Some showed bare midriffs, as they displayed beautiful brightly coloured designs which qualified as racy by Pakistani standards.
Other upcoming shows such as Miami International Fashion week and Creations Fashion Week Dubai will choose one designer each to attend their shows, giving Pakistan's fashion industry more global exposure.

International Fashion: New Season - Leather Rebel
Pixie Geldof steps into the role of modern provocateur to showcase autumn’s love affair with leather. From body-con mini dresses to racy cuissardes. All that is required is a little bit of attitude. Pixie Geldof has been accumulating some pretty heavy modelling gigs lately, including the cover of Vogue Italia and face of Agent Provocateur. The picture below is a British Vogue image, she is appearing as a punk.
There’s a style battle on the horizon as two new brave figures of fashion emerge to tempt us into sartorial transfiguration. One is the tomboy – all dishellved hair and nonchalant posing, with a taste for mini lengths, moody shades, leather jackets and jutting hips. The other is the vamp – red lips, Lauren Bacall hair, body skimming skirt suits, fierce heels and balconetted bras.
Are you tomboy or vamp? Autumn’s prevailing fashion tribes may seem poles apart, but both looks share a fierce demeanour, whether you are a dedicated tomboy or one of the new vamps, you’ll be declaring your allegiance with pride this season.
